Tournament Weekend! Feature Image

Tournament Weekend!

Good Afternoon Everyone!

It's Tournament Week! As you know the tournaments will begin Saturday. So I wanted to go over the information again with some other updates.

  • We have learned a lot from our first season and will be adjusting the rule book for Spring. One rule that will be added immediately is that stream delay for all FPS titles is required for all matches. For the tournament, if you are streaming for any FPS, please delay it by 1 minute.

  • Smash brothers will be a one-day tournament on Sunday, November 21 and it will start at noon. Rocket League, CoD, and Splitgate will be on Saturday, November 20. It will start with Splitgate at 10 am Cod at 1 pm and Rocket League at 6 pm.

  • All matches before the semifinals will be best out of 3. The semi-finals and finals will be best out of 5.

  • All tournaments will be double elimination.

  • Unless there are unexpected delays, all the games final matches will be streamed at these times:

    • CoD 4 pm

    • RL 9 pm

    • Smash Bros 12 pm

  • Splitgate is the only game that will not be streamed due to the spectator bug that is still being worked on.

  • All of you will need to be using GYO to get all your matches done. As we get closer to Finals, I will make all the lobbies for all games. Please make sure that you have me added to all the games so that it will be easier to get everyone in the room as swiftly as possible.

    • SW: 5616-9012-9324

    • Activision: RinSubarashi#1954619

    • RL: Rin Subarashii

  • We will announce a date to have a discussion about joining the Student Council and other Staffing positions after finals are done. So be on the lookout for that information.

Again as always, please reach out to our techs in #support-ticket if you have concerns or you can find me as well. I'm always online and here to help as best as I can.

Keep being awesome!

Yours truly,

Charity

Week 5 Feature Image

Week 5

Good Afternoon Everyone!

We are now in Week 5. This is our final week before the tournament! Here are some notes to keep in mind for this month:

  • The polls have been posted in the discord to see what day works out best for everyone for the tournament. Please go ahead and react to it so that we can announce the dates.

  • Great job on everyone completing matches. As a reminder please continue to post scores and reschedule matches if needed.

  • Our gamer of the week is Syderny from FAMU! Please give him a round of applause for completing his matches on time and giving it his all in Smash Bros.

  • Do you want to get a taste of working in the esports industry? Join our MEAC Student Council and help us grow the program this Spring!  We are still looking for students to help with positions like graphic design, marketing assistance, shoutcasting, streaming, and more.  I started out doing the same thing, and I now get paid to work in esports.  You could be the next success story! https://forms.gle/t5qcoXcrTBDkNrRt5

  • I would like to also take the time to introduce a new moderator for Discord. Please help me welcome Half Calf as our new Mod! He will be here to help keep Discord as safe and updated as possible. If you'd like to join the mod team, let us know! https://forms.gle/U2uLtzEjGnnKMThs5

  • There will be a community stream this Saturday from 5 pm to 9 pm! I will be doing some SMG Speedruns since I have a tournament I am participating in. So please stop by if you can! If we have enough people we may look into checking out the new Among Us roles!

Again as always, please reach out to our techs in #support-ticket if you have concerns or you can find me as well. I'm always online and here to help as best as I can.

Keep being awesome!

Yours truly,

Charity

Week 4! 2 More Weeks to Go!

Good Afternoon Everyone!

We are now in Week 4. Here are some notes to keep in mind for this month:

  • We have two weeks left of play then it's tournament time. I will be posting a poll to see when is a good day for everyone to be able to do their matches.

  • Speaking of the tournament, once I get the dates with the most votes I will then post what the brackets and match ups will look like.

  • Great job on everyone completing matches. As a reminder please continue to post scores and reschedule matches if needed.

  • Normally we have a gamer of the week but last week was nuts and there were so many players on the team I thought I would announce a team of the week! That team is Howard. They have had some wins and losses but overall are great players. Please congratulate them.

Again as always, please reach out to our techs in #support-ticket if you have concerns or you can find me as well. I'm always online and here to help as best as I can.

Week 3 Newsletter! Feature Image

Week 3 Newsletter!

Good Afternoon Everyone!

This is Rin here with your weekly Newsletter. I hope you all are excited to get started on week 3! Here are some updates.

  • There have been some questions on some of the rules for the league, particularly for Call of Duty.  For some sports, we have had a Best of 3 format while others have been Best of 5.  To make it consistent, all matches will be Best of 5 going forward, including COD.  Matches that were played under previous Best of 3 rules will remain completed and final, but future matches will be Best of 5.  We will be updating the rules sections on all sports with further clarifications to common questions as well!

  • Remember when we talked about looking for students to help out with streams and stuff? Here are the application links: MEAC Esports Staffing Application, MEAC Esports Moderation Application. If you want to know which each position entails then click MEAC Staffing Details for more information

  • Our Gamer of the Week is Half Calf from UMES. Please give him a round of applause. He has been killing it in Rocket League and Smash Bros.

  • Remember to report your scores and agree on reschedules so that we don't have to put a forfeit on your match.

Again as always, please reach out to our techs in #support-ticket if you have concerns or you can find me as well. I'm always online and here to help as best as I can.

Week 2 Newsletter!

Good Afternoon Everyone!

Welcome to Week 2. I hope you all are excited to keep the momentum going. Here are some notes and changes as we progress forward.

  • We will need to make some slight schedule adjustments this afternoon, so your current matchup may change.  If you need to reschedule, please check back later this afternoon before you submit your reschedule request.

  • As you all know Smash had a big update yesterday! Sora was released last night so please if you haven't already, update your game. Same thing goes for all games this week so that we are ready to go.

  • We are in the process of looking for people to help with the stream. Whether you want to be a shoutcaster, host, or want to stream from your school we are looking for you. Please be on the lookout for more information.

  • Community streams will make their way back! If you have anything that you would like to see let us know so that we can make it happen.

  • Keep sending your videos and clips! Our first video will drop this week!

  • Remember to report your scores and agree on reschedules so that we don't have to put a forfeit on your match. Also again please make sure you update GYO with your information! We will announce the game of the week and schedules on our social media starting next week.

Again as always, please reach out to our techs in #support-ticket if you have concerns or you can find me as well. I'm always online and here to help as best as I can.

Week 1 Newsletter! Reminders Inside... Feature Image

Week 1 Newsletter! Reminders Inside...

Good Afternoon my MEAC family!

I hope that everyone is enjoying our season thus far. As we continue with Week 1, I wanted to take the time and send out some reminders to everyone in our league as we move forward.

  • Remember to arrive 10-15 mins early for matches. That means being in the chat lobby on GYO.  You can leave GYO open in your browser while you play practice matches and listen for the chime to know your opponent has arrived.

  • Please make sure that you UPDATE your game beforehand. We know that some updates are unpredictable but if you can, please update at least 1 hour before match time. This gives the game and you time to make sure everything runs smoothly.

  • Our website is undergoing a number of changes. We are making it more user-friendly so that you can easily access some menus that might have been hard to find. Rescheduling, getting ready up for your match and other options have been moved to the right side of the page (or top of the page on mobile). Please make sure that you are using these functions for your matches.

  • We encourage players to try to play at your scheduled times, but it is OK to reschedule!   Just make sure that you and your opponent both agree on the new date and time.

  • Forfeits will only occur in the case that a reschedule is unable to be completed.  In these cases, the player who showed up at the correct time will be awarded the forfeit victory.  So if you need to reschedule, make sure you communicate before your match so you don't end up with a Forfeit on your record!

  • Forfeits will be automatically awarded at the end of the week, once the event admins have verified your attendance and inactivity of your opponent.

  • Make sure that you update your GYO profile with all the information you would like to share. Please upload your profile picture, add your Discord tag, and your gamertags. This helps when we start our shouts for teams and players.

  • Please remember to report your scores. We are now officially into play which means your scores matter! This will also help us when we do our gamer of the week and team of the week. (This goes with the point above).

  • We would love you to see your matches for those that aren't featured on stream. Please send clips and/or your channel so we can share your gameplay with everyone. If you would like to be on stream, let me know so that we can get that set up on your match day.

Again as always, please reach out to our techs in #support-ticket if you have concerns or you can find me as well. I'm always online and here to help as best as I can.

Keep being awesome!

Yours truly,

Charity

Great First Day! Tips Inside Feature Image

Great First Day! Tips Inside

Good Morning!!

Our first day of the season was a little rocky for some, but we knew everyone would need a little practice! I hope that once you got a feel for the way things worked, all of you had fun and have learned a lot by using GYO.  Each week going forward will be similar, so it will be much easier with each remaining match.

I thought this would be a great opportunity to share some tips from some of the issues we saw last Thursday. I hope sharing these would help things move a lot smoother.

  • Please make sure that you update your game beforehand. We know that some updates are unpredictable but if you can, please update at least 1 hour before match time. This gives the game and you time to make sure everything runs smoothly.

  • All people can join the lobby in GYO but in the game, only four players from each team can join the game. Unless I have reached out to your team about spectating your game, please have a maximum of one spectator watching to make sure the game is going ok! This should be either Team Captain, Assistants, or your sub/alternate player.  You are welcome to stream on Twitch (or have your spectator stream) to your personal channels if others wish to watch as well.

  • Speaking of spectating, I will start today to reach out to teams to start developing a schedule of who I will be watching for each of the matches. Please be prepared to be online and ready to go because these matches will be streamed on our Twitch.

  • Remember to arrive 10-15 mins early for matches. That means being in the chat lobby on GYO.

  • If you had any issues with your matches from Thursday, it's ok - it's Pre-Season. Please reschedule your matches for this week if you can. Remember to do that in GYO and that both players have to agree to it.

  • Lastly, don't forget to update your scores in GYO. Next week, scores will matter!

While we are only doing one match per week right now (some have done more), we may increase that in the future if everyone requests it.  In the meantime, you are welcome and encouraged to scrimmage against each other whenever you like!  You will likely only play each team or player once per season, so after you finish your match, they can become good scrimmage opponents for you!

I think that this is it for now. Again as always, please reach out to our techs in #support-ticket if you have concerns or you can find me as well. I'm always online and here to help as best as I can.

Keep being awesome!

Yours truly,

Charity

CoD Matches Starts TONIGHT! ... Feature Image

CoD Matches Starts TONIGHT! ...

Greetings MEAC students

I hope all is well and that everyone is stoked about our first season in the MEAC Esports Conference. Today starts your journey with your teammates to win the first (virtual) cup in MEAC history. We will start with CoD starting at 7pm and Splitgate starting at 8pm. Here are some announcements for you folks.

  1. This week is our Pre-Season match just so we can all get our feet wet. So the important thing to do is learn how to work GYO and to have fun.

  1. We will start with all CoD matches at 7pm. Please join in on GYO for your match 10-15 mins early so we can know who is playing, who are the subs, coaches, etc. This goes for Splitgate as well which again starts at 8pm. Today is our first day of the season so again please be patient as we are all going through this together!

  1. When you log into GYO, you can click on Your Matches at the top and see what matches you are doing for the entire season.
If you join the match lobby you can chat with others, reschedule a match, report your scores and other options as well. GYO will be used for all of your match needs so before this season is over you will be very familiar with it.

  2. Speaking of help, if you have any questions, the fastest way is to use the website Support chat.  You will find it on the bottom right side of the screen when you visit the website. You can also reach out to our #support-ticket channel in our Discord. Here is the link if you need to join it --> Discord

  1. Lastly please read our rulebook so you are aware of the rules for league play. You find the rulebook here for reference --> MEAC Rulebook

  1. Here is also a link to GYO handbook with more tips on the site here as well --> GYO Docs

  1. It was brought to my attention that CoD has league rules and that we forgot to include that in the rule book. So for the rest of the league please refer to these CoD League Rules.

  1. For Splitgate players, we have updated your rules for play. Please see the rules for Splitgate League Rules.

This is the first week of the season, so we do expect some confusion and possibly some teams to get a little lost tonight.  Please be patient and communicate with us in the support chat and/or Discord, and if needed we can do some reschedules.

That should be it for today! I'm so happy and can't wait to see some great matches today! Remember the most important thing is to have fun.

Keep being awesome everyone!

Yours truly,

Charity
